Development
As it does for all educators, professional development plays a vital role for
teachers when it comes to maintaining mastery of both subject matter and
instructional methods. To ensure quality, providers of learning must ensure that
educators have the skills and resources to fully prepare for the challenges of
the advancing learning environments and are adequately supported in their
pedagogy. For that reason, educators should maintain credentials that arm
educational institutions with necessary evidence of their qualifications.
The University of Georgia
through UKS is offering a collection of courses that can help schools to advance
their teaching and learning, particularly with regards to technology in the 21st
Century. The program is accredited by the Georgia Center for Continuing
Education and revolves around two foci: Preparing school leaders to lead the
use of technology and preparing teachers to use technology in powerful ways.
This dual prong approach is
based on years of research on how to bring about positive change in the schools
and it is based on well-established and powerful teaching and learning theory.
Administrators would complete course work having created technology plans for
their schools and other artifacts that will support them as they lead their
teachers in their adoption of technology. Teachers will complete their course
work with lessons that have used in their classes during their learning in the
class. For both of them, they will complete their course work with a collection
of artifacts that they can use in their jobs immediately.

The Smart School
UKS assists schools and school districts in
creating a multimedia rich educational experience, the ultimate outcome being
the Smart School where teachers, students and parents can benefit from an integrated
learning environment. The Smart School is created by combining educational software,
hardware and systems such as, an Educational Portal System linking a Learning
Management System (LMS), a School Management System (SMS), an Assessment Management
System (AMS), the Interactive Classroom, Digital Repository Learning Objects
and Language Lab
Interactive Classroom
Providing top teaching and learning technologies
that meet students and educators’ real needs is a permanent concern for
educators today, as a result, UKS offers efficient tools to effectively enhance
classroom learning such as Interactive Whiteboards, Bluetooth Tablet, Voting
System, Interactive panel and Tablet PCs. Software designed for use with this
technology provides tutors with a superior application for getting their message
across more effectively.
Learning Objects
UKS works closely with each of its clients
to determine individual requirements and customize effective solutions. Through
its partnerships with major global educational organizations, UKS is able to
provide schools of all levels with access to a unique range of innovative educational
content, which are offered in several languages.
Language Lab
UKS provides interactive learning material for
the language lab. The learner acquires knowledge through real life videos, audio
recordings and reading passages. The learner not only hears native speakers use
new and useful vocabulary, but he/she can record the words or phrases and have
the utterances analysed using the same software. No longer confined to a formal
language lab, the registered student can access this material from his computer
at school or at home. With a built-in LMS, the software allows the teacher to
monitor the student and keep records of his/her progress.
Digital Repository
UKS has integrated its portal with leading
digital repositories to simplify the uploading and retrieving of learning objects
in different file formats. Those learning objects can be used as supporting materials
for the teachers as well as in-class activities and/or homework assignments.
School District Portal Solution
UKS, in collaboration with
its partners, developed a comprehensive easy to use portal system for school
districts and K-12 educational organizations. The portal includes modules such
as the calendar, homework, announcements, exams, grade books and many more state-of-the-art
industry standard modules. The system also acts as a content management solution
by aggregating information from distributed sources and enabling the information
to be quickly and easily browsed by the students, parents and teachers. Each
school has its own administrators and the district has administrators that can
monitor all the schools.
